Manuel Sánchez is the Chief Colonel of the Spanish police’s intelligence unit, the Central Operating Unit (UCO), which pursues terrorism cases and white-collar financial crimes. He has spent more than 40 years on the force – a good number of them in the Basque Country – and has participated in numerous on-the-ground operations against ETA.
