The Boy from El Maravillas

Original title: El noi del Maravillas
Synopsis:

Roger Ventós, who reaches international heights in the opera world as a baritone, has an unusual background. Son of a Catalan in exile and a Senegalese soldier he never met, he is born in 1939 in Seta, where he will receive his first lessons in music. When he turns fifteen, his mother, dying from illness, sends him to Barcelona to live with his uncle, Lluís Ventós.

From his father, Lluís Ventós inherited the trade of stagehand, working in a variety theater founded on Avinguda Paral·lelat the end of the XIX century and owned by the Bartrina family: El Maravillas. There, in the changing rooms of El Maravillas, Roger Ventós discovers that he has a true family that transcends blood ties. While cultivating more and more conscientiously his devotion to song and music, Roger will start to discover the peculiarities of the opera world and the social interests it is tied up with. He also meets new people who will play a decisive role in his life, which will oscillate between two poles: the warmth of the home El Maravillas has given him and his independence and devotion to the rigors of singing.
